Merlin's Cave
Geheimnisse und Rätsel sind das, was uns stärkster anzieht, als alle Stellen, die schon erforscht, vermessen, ausgeleuchtet sind. Gerade das Dunkel der Höhlen hat so eine geheimnisvolle Atmosphäre erzeugt und "Magisches" hinein geheimnist. Und wer ein richtiger "Magier" war, dessen Wohnort konnte durchaus eine richtige Höhle sein.
Einer Gestalt aus der Arthussage, Merlin, ging es so. Nur, wo war nun dieser Ort? An der Küste Cornwalls vermutet so mancher diese Stelle.
Erstaunlich ist, daß diese Idee der Merlinshöhle so gestaltkräftig war und ist, daß es heute sogar eine richtige "Associatione Culturale Grotta di Merlino" gibt, die auch eine eigene Website im Internet hat. Wer sich einmal darüber informieren will, der kann ja diesen Link zu ihnen mal benützen.

Tennyson made
this place famous in his Idylls of the King when he described waves bringing the infant Arthur to the shore, where he was plucked out by Merlin and carried to safety. Local legend has long associated this cave - which fills with water at every high tide - with the great enchanter. It is certainly a place of considerable atmosphere, where one might indeed expect to see Merlin approaching, with his staff held up to illuminate the darkness of the cave. It is now mostly the haunt of scuba-divers in search of shells and fossils.
